ATLAS measurements of minimum bias and soft QCD

The first measurements of charged particle production in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energy √ s = 900 GeV and 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC are presented. Minimum bias distributions are measured for events with at least one charged particle in the kinematic range |η | < 2.5 and pT > 500 MeV and compared with the predictions from various Monte Carlo models. Act...

Minimum Bias and Underlying Event Studies at Atlas and Cms

An overview of minimum bias and underlying event studies at the LHC with the ATLAS and CMS detectors is presented. Current uncertainties in the modeling of soft pp inelastic interactions at the LHC energy scale are discussed. Triggers used to select inelastic interactions at ATLAS and CMS are described and compared. A summary of some of the ongoing minimum bias and underlying event analyses by ...

Diffractive Measurements in ATLAS

Measurements made using the ATLAS detector at the LHC at √ s = 7 TeV incorporating diffractive processes are presented. A first measurement of the inelastic cross-section using 20 μb−1 of data is given, yielding a result of σinel(ξ > 5 × 10−6) = 60.3 ± 2.1 mb, for single (pp→ X p) and double (pp→ XY ) diffractive processes for a kinematic range corresponding to detector acceptance ξ = MX/s calc...

Missing measurements on RIPE Atlas

We show that it is common to lose some datapoints for measurements scheduled at regular interval on RIPE Atlas. The temporal correlation between missing measurements and connection events are analyzed, in the pursuit of understanding reasons behind such missings. To our surprise, a big part of measurements are lost while probes are connected.

Early QCD measurements with ATLAS

This note describes some of the early QCD analyses that will be carried out by the ATLAS experiment [2] [3] with the first LHC data: measurement of characteristics of inelastic pp collisions through studies of minimum bias events, modelling and characterising the underlying event and the uncertainties on the jet energy scale (JES) of high-PT jets, which is the principal uncertainty on the inclu...
